If anxiety, depression or other mental health issues are affecting your life and stand in the way of you being your best self, I can help. Incorporating elements of compassion-focused therapy, I work in a primarily cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) framework.
So often, we amplify our distress by judging ourselves for having the thoughts and emotional reactions that we have. In therapy, you will learn to be more compassionate towards yourself and to modify your thinking and behaviour in order to change emotional reactions that are distressing. You will learn new skills to help you break out of unproductive cycles that maintain emotional distress.

My clinical orientation is rooted in cognitive-behavioural theories. I integrate other empirically supported methods like DBT, Emotion-Focused and Compassion-Focused to help reduce and manage symptomatic behaviours and increase overall functioning. I have a special interest in working with individuals from racialized groups and LGBTQ communities.
It is incredibly rewarding to face our difficult emotions, by accepting, changing, or letting them go. We are all in this together. Sometimes in life we feel lost, or un-grounded, or overcome by stress, or anxiety. Having someone there in your corner can make a lot of difference.
The expert on you is you, and together we can explore what is standing between your present and the near-future where you can become a version of yourself more aligned with your goals.
We can start with a (free) consultation to see if we work well together; the most important aspect of working with a psychotherapist is that you find someone that you feel comfortable with. At the risk of leaning too hard on a metaphor; we are about to set off on a roadtrip together, one which may take us through your past, and likely into your future - so let us meet before I climb into the passenger seat.

Relational Therapist
I practice relational therapy—I believe we're all shaped by relationships, past and present. I place great importance on building the trust and connection needed for deeper exploration. I take a client-led, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive stance, holding curiosity for how systems such as capitalism, patriarchy, and colonialism impact your life and our work together.
We can spend a lot of our lives feeling stuck, unfulfilled, or overwhelmed. Admitting our struggles, needs, or desires for change is a courageous risk—and an opening! Whether exploring old wounds, recent challenges, or life transitions, therapy is an opportunity to honour parts of yourself and your experiences that haven't had enough space. It’s a chance to grow your capacities to feel, reflect, and connect in a supportive and nonjudgemental relationship. This deepened awareness and connection to self and others naturally eases suffering. Whether you're coming in the throws of grief, depression, fear, anxiety, hurt, shame, or rage, I meet you there and we find our way together. Together, we'll discover what a more fulfilling life looks like for you.
I know how hard it is to share your struggles and trust a new person—I’ve been a client of therapy myself for many years. It’s not easy work! But I’m committed to building trust and staying curious about who you are and how you’re experiencing the process. My hope is that you leave sessions feeling cared for, understood, accepted, and connected with.
More details about my practice and training:
I am currently a student in my final year of training at the Toronto Institute for Relational Psychoanalysis. I have been practicing for over a year and am currently under the supervision of Tamara Roberts (licence #003620). Before training in psychotherapy, I worked in community mental health as a program manager, researcher, and peer support worker.
Insurance that covers Registered Psychotherapists can be processed and covered under my supervisor. My standard fee is $120 and I have a sliding scale option for those who need it. I see clients virtually or in-person.

I use multiple therapeutic modalities and work from a trauma-informed, Anti-Oppressive framework. Many people who seek out therapy come because they feel stuck in painful patterns or emotions that are causing distress, feel overwhelmed by their emotions, experience numbness, or have trouble figuring out exactly what they feel. If this is you, you are not alone.
All of us at some point in our lives find ourselves wanting to feel differently in our relationship with our selves, our loved ones, our work, or our communities. We want to feel more joy, energy, or passion, and less sadness, anger, or fear. We want to heal from past traumas and end painful patterns that are causing distress. Every person deserves to not just cope, but thrive.
It is my role to create a safe, warm, non-judgemental space for you to explore and shift painful emotions and patterns in lasting ways.
While I draw on many theories, my practice is primarily grounded in emotion theory, or EFT. This means that through the therapeutic relationship, you will learn how to pay attention to your feelings, needs, and actions, and learn how to pause and act, rather than react. This will allow you to address the root causes of your difficulties and create meaningful transformations in patterns of emotion, behaviour, and thoughts, as well as gaining a better understanding of yourself.

As a trans, non-binary, queer, adoptee, living with disabilities, I bring a unique perspective to working with clients who are experiencing challenges regarding gender, sexual orientation, sexuality, disability, identity, relationships, and with people who have experience with adoption and/or the child welfare system. I work with adults and youth, their families, and social circles to provide support and guidance as they navigate transitions and challenges in their lives.
I offer short-, medium-, and long-term counselling to clients, and work with clients to decide how we work together. I have preference for engaging with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, people with disabilities, and with people who have experience in the child welfare system or with adoption, but I will also work with clients who do not identify in these ways.
My practice is grounded in queer, feminist, and anti-oppression theory and centres around the theme of resiliency. My approach is strengths-based and uses harm reduction strategies. I work from an intersectional perspective to understand how individuals interact with the systems of oppression of our society.

Dr. Shona Tritt PhD. VIDEO THERAPY
Shona Tritt, PhD, Clinical Psychologist
Clinical Psychologist and executive coach
I am a Clinical Psychologist and an Assistant Professor (Teaching Stream) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto Scarborough. I received my PhD in Psychology from the University of Toronto in 2014 after completing a post-graduate fellowship at Yale University, a masters degree from University College London, and a honours B.A from Concordia University. I have previously worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at New York University, and have taught at the Rotman School of Management.
As a therapist, I use cognitive behavioural and psychodynamic methods to provide tailored treatment for couples and for adults afflicted with a variety of psychological conditions including anxiety disorders, depression, and personality disorders, as well as difficult issues such as relationship issues, life transitions, job difficulties, shyness, and low self-esteem. I am also a certified executive coach who strives to help individuals to be better able to achieve their goals in professional as well as personal domains.
I have conducted academic research that explores how expectations and beliefs affect perception and memory. My research findings suggest that people have a propensity to see and to remember information that fits with their beliefs and expectations, regardless of what is actually in front of them. My research suggests the enormous potential of psychological interventions. To the extent that psychological interventions can change your beliefs and your expectations, they can – quite literally — change what you see and how you understand the world.
I am a registered member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario, the Canadian Psychological Association, and the Ontario Psychological Association.

I view respect, curiosity, and compassion as the pillars to reconnecting with one’s sense of self through exploration of emotional, psychological, relational, and physiological distress. Each of us is made up of many different parts, all of which exist for a reason. By bringing awareness and understanding to wounded and struggling parts of self, we can learn what they need to heal. Therapy will focus on developing strategies, exploring emotions, accessing inner resources, and implementing tools in support of healing, growth, and health. Any topic can be discussed in therapy, no matter how big or small.

Relationships are the air we breathe. I have always had a passionate interest in how relationships shape us, what they mean to us, how they break down, and by what means they can be repaired.
I formalized my passion through training as a psychotherapist. Whether I'm working with individuals or couples, I work collaboratively with my clients to uncover coping strategies that may have helped them manage stress and adversity at one point in their lives, and which may be causing unintentional problems now. Together, we look at patterns of relating that might be keeping my clients unintentionally out of connection with the ones they love.
I am a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), as well as a member of the Ontario Society of Registered Psychotherapists (OSRP). I am governed by the Codes of Ethics of my training program at The Toronto Institute for Relational Psychotherapy (TIRP), the CRPO, and the OSRP.
I am committed to ongoing professional development to learn the most effective approaches for working with my clients.
Therapeutic approaches:
Relational psychotherapy: Relationships are the very foundation of our existence and development. When we struggle in our connections, we struggle in most other areas of our lives – cognitively, physically, and emotionally. Relational psychotherapy offers a warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative relationship in which you can safely explore your experiences, thoughts and feelings, and set goals for healing.
Sensorimotor psychotherapy: This somatic (mindful, body-awareness) approach to psychotherapy is particularly effective for processing trauma and attachment injuries. It helps you identify coping strategies that may no longer be working, and supports you to develop new, more effective resources for greater resilience.
Couples therapy (Emotionally Focused Therapy and Internal Family Systems): Humans are born to bond. Adult romantic partnerships are the connection we seek for emotional safety and well being. When our partnerships become troubled, it can feel catastrophic. In couples work, we identify the painful cycles that keep us stuck in conflict, and work together in a safe environment to locate the deeper feelings that can lead to reconnection and healing.
