Starts With Me
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
I’m glad that you’ve found your way to this profile and I wish you the best in your search for the right person.
I have two sayings that I find quite useful when starting therapy.
1. You can’t think your way into right action, you have to act your way into right thinking.
2. There are no shortcuts, yet, there are many solutions!
As a therapist, my fundamental goal is to help and encourage you to look at the difficult parts of your life that are holding you back, while simultaneously helping you to cultivate the skills to live your life in a manner that is mentally healthy and purpose driven.
I work with people struggling with addiction (specializing in cannabis), anxiety, depression and those having difficulty in their marriage or settling into a committed relationship. I also like to help people who feel lost in their life or who feel unfulfilled by their current profession and who hope to bring more meaning into their lives. I incorporate my skills as a mindfulness teacher into our sessions. I am a father, a husband, and the founder of a consultancy business specializing in k-12 education and workplace mental health.
The therapeutic approaches that I generally use are
ACT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
CBT, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
MSC – Mindful Self-Compassion
Here are some questions to consider whether or not you are ready to begin the journey to healing and well-being.
I am ready and willing to make changes in my life
I am looking to bring more purpose and meaning to my life
I am ready to be more honest with myself
I am ready to be more honest with others
I know I can’t do this on my own, (because nobody does)
My relationships are suffering as a result of my situation
My work life is suffering as a result of my situation
I am ready to live my life in a way that helps me feel more joy and contentment
If this resonates with you, I think we can do some great work together.
Take it easy,
peace

Kat Kova Therapy
Specialized Sex and Relationship Therapists
At Kat Kova Therapy, we offer in-person and remote sessions and offer our specialized help in sex and relationship therapy to help people create healthier and more satisfying relationships and intimate lives.
If you landed here, know that you are not alone-research shows that individuals and couples/relationship partners struggle to maintain relationship and sexual satisfaction over time. About 60% of all therapy-seeking couples report sexual dissatisfaction along with relationship dissatisfaction and 48.5% of couples seeking therapy report sexual issues as their primary reason for seeking relationship therapy.
Of all couple and martial therapy programs in North America, only 8% require a stand-alone course in sexuality, and only 22% of psychotherapists ask their clients about sexuality (i.e., most report discomfort with or inadequacy in discussing sexual issues). But not to worry-we have the built-in solution to this problem at our practice!
We are the 2024 Canadian Choice winner of marriage counsellors because we go above and beyond to make sure our therapists have a deep understanding and effectiveness in treating a wide range of sex and relationship concerns (e.g., communication, erectile dysfunction, sexual desire, orgasm difficulties, etc.) by offering continuing education to our therapists (e.g., intensive sex therapy training, sex and relationship-related workshops, supervision and resources).
We also offer clinical internships to students completing their psychotherapy programs on-site with generous supervision in sex and relationship therapy. This allows us to offer therapy with our interns at a low-cost to those in need (because no couple should fight about both sex, and money).
We are looking forward to personally matching you with one of our therapists today (most clients are able to secure an appointment within 24 hours of booking)!

Welcome. I provide counselling and psychotherapy services to individuals and families. My practice is located in Toronto.
I have 30 years experience providing counselling to individuals and families engaging with a wide range of issues and concerns. I have experience with parenting and relationship issues, mid-life transitions such as menopause and career changes, anxiety and depression, grief and loss, and addictions.
I am a Registered Social Worker with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto. I am committed to ongoing learning and professional development and have postgraduate certifications in Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Children’s Grief and Bereavement, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Much of my practice over the years has focused on working with parents addressing concerns related to the various stages of childrearing from newborns and the postpartum period through to teenagers and everything in between. For over twenty years, I worked at community mental health agencies in Toronto serving youth, families and parents. I have experience navigating health and mental health systems and organizations. I also have experience working with families with high conflict, communication breakdown, and separation and divorce. I am a parent and step-parent myself and have learned much from my own family about the importance of patience, humility, and humour – all of which I bring to my practice.
My counselling practice is firmly rooted in a feminist anti-racist anti-oppressive framework. I consider the impacts of the social determinants of health on mental well-being and my practice emphasizes client choice, self-determination, and harm reduction.

You might be experiencing some of the challenges below.
Life Transitions
We are in constant change, so you might find yourself dealing with different challenges that have altered the structure of your life as you knew it before. When things around us change we can sometimes feel overwhelmed by the unknown, and not feeling ready to adjust to new realities.
Relationships
You might feel stuck in an intimate relationship, or you are single looking to start a healthy relationship. You might also feel frustrated, angry or sad towards colleagues, family members and friends. Even though it is not possible to change how others behave, it is possible to create healthier relationships.
These factors can trigger different emotions, such as depression, anxiety, anger, fear, making us feel stuck or not able to move forward. Facing these challenges alone is not easy. My passion is to walk together with you in a therapeutic journey. You are unique. I believe that we all deserve to be happy, and that we can be happy.

My clients say I have a knack for gentle, curious questions leading to profound realizations and meaningful change. We are all in this together. Sometimes in life we feel lost, or un-grounded, or overcome by stress, or anxiety. Having someone there in your corner can make a lot of difference.
The expert on you is you, and together we can explore what is standing between your present and the near-future where you can become a version of yourself more aligned with your goals.
We can start with a (free) consultation to see if we work well together; the most important aspect of working with a psychotherapist is that you find someone that you feel comfortable with. At the risk of leaning too hard on a metaphor; we are about to set off on a roadtrip together, one which may take us through your past, and likely into your future - so let us meet before I climb into the passenger seat.

Relational Therapist
I practice relational therapy—I believe we're all shaped by relationships, past and present. I place great importance on building the trust and connection needed for deeper exploration. I take a client-led, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive stance, holding curiosity for how systems such as capitalism, patriarchy, and colonialism impact your life and our work together.
We can spend a lot of our lives feeling stuck, unfulfilled, or overwhelmed. Admitting our struggles, needs, or desires for change is a courageous risk—and an opening! Whether exploring old wounds, recent challenges, or life transitions, therapy is an opportunity to honour parts of yourself and your experiences that haven't had enough space. It’s a chance to grow your capacities to feel, reflect, and connect in a supportive and nonjudgemental relationship. This deepened awareness and connection to self and others naturally eases suffering. Whether you're coming in the throws of grief, depression, fear, anxiety, hurt, shame, or rage, I meet you there and we find our way together. Together, we'll discover what a more fulfilling life looks like for you.
I know how hard it is to share your struggles and trust a new person—I’ve been a client of therapy myself for many years. It’s not easy work! But I’m committed to building trust and staying curious about who you are and how you’re experiencing the process. My hope is that you leave sessions feeling cared for, understood, accepted, and connected with.
More details about my practice and training:
I am currently a student in my final year of training at the Toronto Institute for Relational Psychoanalysis. Our Healing Connection Therapy
Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist
Kumsal is a Registered Social Worker and psychotherapist in Toronto. As a first-generation immigrant and parent who transitioned from research to clinical work, she understands how identity, culture, and life changes shape how we feel and relate to ourselves and others. She works with adults and couples who feel stuck in patterns like overthinking, shutting down, or repeated conflict. Many are navigating identity, cultural expectations, burnout, or major life transitions. Using a relational, emotion-focused approach grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), she helps her individual and couples clients understand what’s beneath these patterns so they can respond differently, feel more secure, and build meaningful connections.

If you keep running into the same relationship or work patterns, therapy can help you understand why. For example, you may notice that you end up with the same kind of partner, feel stuck around authority, or carry a sense of not being good enough even when things are going well. Therapy can help you make sense of these patterns in a supportive, non-judgmental space.
Clients often come to me when they want to better understand relationship struggles, self-criticism, anxiety, depression or a general sense of being stuck. I offer an in-depth approach that makes room for real understanding and meaningful change.
I work with adults who want to understand themselves more deeply and feel more freedom in how they relate to themselves and other people.
My role is to listen carefully, ask questions, and at times gently challenge what may be getting in the way. We will work to notice connections between past experiences and what is happening now. Over time, this work can help you feel less caught and more aware of your needs, and more able to make choices that fit who you are now.
My personal background is quite varied and includes work in libraries, publishing, and not-for-profit organizations. My formal education includes a Master of Information Studies, later followed by training at the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy (CTP) where I received in-depth, intensive training in psychodynamic psychotherapy.
I offer a free 30-minute consultation. This is a low-pressure way to talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, ask questions, and see whether we feel like a good fit.

Life isn't easy, it's filled with joys and sufferings, and it can easily bog you down. You can feel lost, confused, scared, exhausted, and alone. This is valid and it is what makes our life experience unique, oftentimes so unique that it feels that no one can understand us. Our work together will create a space where you feel safe, heard, and understood; a space where you can truly be you and embrace who you are. I will be with you every step of the way as you navigate your healing process and build a life worth living.
My approach draws from a wide range of evidence-based practices such as IFS, CBT, DBT, attachment-based theory, and polyvagal science to help identify what is and isn't working for you anymore, and work towards finding inner peace. I am experienced in specializing in trauma, grief and loss, relationship issues, emotional dysregulation, and attachment disorders.
As a therapist, I deeply value the therapeutic relationship and strive towards building that secure connection through genuine, compassionate, and empathic care as the vehicle for one's healing process. I would be honoured to go along with you on your journey as you discover yourself.

I create a warm and safe environment for clients from a variety of backgrounds to identify their unique goals for therapy, and tailor an individualized treatment plan to help them reach these goals. I work individually with adults on clinical issues (e.g., anxiety, depression, trauma, eating issues) and personal growth (e.g., relationship and communication difficulties, managing life transitions). I aim to empower clients to identify and build on their strengths, with the goal of finding more peace, fulfillment, and meaning in their lives.

Finding the right therapist can be an emotionally draining and challenging process. If you're looking for a different therapy experience that is highly collaborative and engaging, this may be the right fit for you! I like to provide emotional space, humour, and ask reflective questions that will get your brain working a little harder. Clients often say to me: "Wow, that is a good question! Let me think about this for a minute." I also practice from a person-in-environment approach. I analyze and take into consideration of systemic factors that may be impacting your overall well-being.
I am a South Asian cis woman that is passionate about working with BIPOC and other marginalized communities. I have extensive lived and professional experience in supporting clients with anxiety, depression, family conflict, and other life stressors. I also offer therapy from a person-centered, strengths-based, intersectional, and anti-oppressive framework.
My philosophy about therapy is that you are always in the driver's seat while I am in the passenger seat. You are the expert of your own life, but you may need some extra help to get to your destination. I will support you by offering new therapeutic perspectives, coping strategies, and empathy along the way.

I specialize in working with adults and teens facing anxiety and overwhelm, life transitions, issues with self-worth, difficult relationship dynamics, and the impacts of painful life events or chronic distress. A foundational part of much of my work with clients is exploring current challenges through attachment & trauma lenses. This means that we may look at how early relationships, experiences, and survival adaptations may be impacting a sense of worthiness and trust with self & others.
Therapy can provide a space to feel heard, understood, and even gently challenged when that’s helpful. Together, we can process emotions, explore learned beliefs & ways you’ve had to cope, and uncover new insights, perspectives and pathways for change so you can experience greater ease and empowerment.
