Dr. Toombs uses Cognitive-Behavioural and Dialectical-Behavioural approaches as clinical interventions, and enjoys working with individuals for anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and substance use related concerns.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Toombs is an adjunct professor in the Department of Psychology at Lakehead University. Her research primarily focuses on using community-based methods to improve access to culturally-relevant and evidence-based mental health care in First Nation communities. As a co-investigator, Dr. Toombs has held over 1.5 million dollars in research funding to date, and has published 35 peer-reviewed manuscripts in a variety of scientific journals on topics related to First Nation mental health, resilience, and child wellbeing.
Born and raised in Prince Edward Island, Dr. Toombs moved to Thunder Bay to complete her graduate training in clinical psychology at Lakehead University. She spends her spare time in the woods around Lake Superior, and enjoys camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, and sailing.
