Psychotherapist
Hello! I am a Registered Psychotherapist offering psychotherapy services to youth, adults, and caregivers in the Anishinaabe Algonquin territory (Ottawa) and surrounding areas. I also offer clinical supervision or consultation. I am passionate about connecting with people to support their growth, celebrate successes, and learn from others.
I believe deeply that you are enough, now. My approach to psychotherapy is client-centred, non-judgmental, and compassionate. I strive for attunement, which involves meeting people where they are and understanding how they got there. This approach includes working somatically (body-focused, bottom-up) and from a systemic framework to understand how someone's experiences make sense given their history and the context in which they live. I integrate several theoretical orientations including Somatic Experiencing, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Mindful Self-Compassion.
My areas of practice and interest include big feelings, relational hurt, trauma/post-traumatic growth, transitions, and neurodivergence.

You keep dating partners who become distant. Time spent with family feels draining. You feel like you give so much but get too little in return. Your shoulders are tense all the time. You feel like you are walking on egg shells.
Working within a safe relationship, we will note and process your emotions together. I will help you find answers. Skill-building, solutions, feedback and even humor can all be part of therapy. My counselling approach is influenced by psychodynamic and psychodrama theory.
If that sounds like you, I would love to help. Together we will figure out why it is so hard for you to feel seen in your relationships and come up with ways you can improve them or build new ones.

Life can be difficult. In these difficult moments we are not meant to be alone in our pain. We are wired to connect and to lean in for support. However, through difficult experiences, we may have learned to stop reaching for support, or to just push through. Our once adaptive responses may be getting in the way of us living the life that we want. Joelle's intention is to hold a warm and welcoming space for you to present yourself authentically, so together you can explore how your past experiences may be influencing your life today. Together you will co-create a therapeutic plan that best supports you in building a meaningful life.
Joelle is a master’s student at Saint Paul University and has been gaining experience working with individuals at the University’s counselling clinic as an intern. Joelle started her career as a Dietitian, and soon found her passion for mental health. She wanted to help people with the root of their challenges.
Joelle offers services in English to individuals seeking support with relational challenges, developmental trauma, eating disorders, ADHD, borderline personality disorder, anxiety, family of origin challenges, depression, identity challenges, life transitions, grief, parenting, and more.
Joelle's approach is collaborative, and client-centered, and integrates core elements from attachment theory, DBT and an Emotion-Focused frameworks.

If you’re here, you might be feeling anxious, stuck, or overwhelmed, even if everything looks fine on the outside. Life might feel like you’re carrying more than you can handle, going through the motions, or feeling like something is holding you back. This can show up on your own or in your relationship. You might understand why you feel this way, but that insight hasn’t brought relief yet. Sometimes your thoughts spin in circles, overthinking and analyzing, but it doesn’t make the anxiety or stuck feeling go away. You may notice your body tensing, your mind racing, or a quiet sense that something needs to change.
In our work together, we’ll explore patterns and beliefs shaping how you see yourself and how you relate to others and reconnect with what truly matters to you. This process can help you build self-trust, feel more grounded in daily life, communicate more clearly, make decisions with confidence, and feel more at home in yourself and your relationships.
It’ll be a space to slow down, stop performing, and feel understood. Whether you come on your own or with your partner, you can expect a down-to-earth space where you don’t need to have things figured out. My hope is that therapy becomes a place where the gap between where you are and where you want to be feels less overwhelming and more possible to cross

Starting counselling for the first time or at any point can be a very intimidating process. My priority is to make this experience less overwhelming by being transparent about the process, helping you identify the challenges you're currently facing, making goals, and creating a plan for change that you are comfortable with. We will explore the situation(s) that have brought you to counselling, discuss how you have coped so far and start to take on new perspectives by understanding the way your emotions and thoughts are impacting how you feel and behave.
As a Registered Psychotherapist, I take a client-centered approach to our work together; you are the expert in your life. This means that your personal experience is our starting point and together we can build awareness about what has lead you to where you are now and make change.
I want to support you in moving forward with your decision to get help, make meaningful change in your life, and most importantly to feel better. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to explore the possibility of starting counselling. Available Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays in Nepean.
