Attune Counselling Therapy Ltd.
Registered Counselling Therapist / Certified Music Therapist
Attune Counselling Therapy and Music Psychotherapy offers caring, creative, and confidential counselling therapy services in Dartmouth, NS. My practice focuses on several areas of counselling interest and specialization. A part of my practice focuses on helping people have healthy, respectful relationships; increasing emotional regulation; and shifting away from unhelpful effects of anger. I work with men looking to heal and repair from negative effects of childhood or adult sexual assault/abuse. My practice is 2SLGBTQ+ affirming.
I believe that people have the wisdom and ability to uncover, explore, and enjoy greater self-awareness, self-empowerment, well-being, and happiness. Narrative Therapy and Music Therapy form the cornerstones of my approach. I believe in the power of these two approaches to help people on their path toward enjoying greater contentment and a more joyous life.
It takes courage to seek help and begin therapy. It can be stressful and upsetting to admit that we need help, but we all do at times. Choosing someone to work with in therapy takes time. Working with the right therapist, one who'll provide support for issues that are important to you, can be transformative and provide you with the relief you're seeking.

Life isn’t always hard, but when things get challenging, when feelings of anxiousness and despair seem overwhelming, seeing a counsellor can help. Having a place to say it all out loud can be the gateway to better emotional and mental health. Sorting through and dealing with issues of anger, abandonment, fear, trauma and hopelessness can help you restore balance in your life. We can work together to find your way forward.
I am a Registered Counselling Therapist in Nova Scotia. I provide counselling to individuals and couples primarily in the areas of anxiety and stress management, relationship issues, sexuality, trauma and personal growth and wellness. I also work with clients involved in work conflict and disputes.
My therapeutic approach is cognitive-behavioural and solution focused. I facilitate goal setting and help clients to develop and engage in strategies for change. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy-primarily used in couples counselling. I work hard to provide a genuine client-therapist relationship that is collaborative, respectful and empathic.

Counselling Psychologist and Career Coach
I am currently able to to welcome new clients to my virtual practice and hope to welcome clients in-person at my Dartmouth based office in June depending on the safety of the situation with Covid-19, which I will be closely monitoring.
We are not defined by our problems but it is easy to get caught up in what is not working in our lives and believe there is something wrong with us. I aim to help you rediscover and utilize your strengths, to identify your values, to engage with your life in meaningful ways and to remember that there is so much more to who you are. Together we'll focus on learning to accept, adapt to and live with painful life experiences, process your thoughts and feelings, and deepen your self-awareness so that you can feel more equipped in facing life's inevitable challenges. We will look at what you wish to change and identify ways to help move you forward. Some of my main tasks include helping you to define and move toward your preferred life direction, identify a sense of purpose, learn coping skills and to establish a better relationship with yourself and with others.
Since 2014, I have had the pleasure of working in university, college, community and private settings in Halifax, Montreal and Calgary. I have worked as a career counsellor/advisor and mental health counsellor through practicums and internships in Montreal and I completed a provisional psychologist residency in Calgary before becoming a fully licensed psychologist. After many years away, I am happy to be home in Nova Scotia and practicing in Dartmouth. I offer a collaborative, curious and relaxed approach and I focus on building a comfortable relationship in which you can feel seen, heard and empowered to make change. I believe in the innate ability of people to improve their situations and cope with their problems but sometimes, we all need a little extra help.Together, we will focus on what matters to you.

Verdant Counselling
Registered Counselling Therapist
Counselling therapy can be sought for many reasons. To increase well-being, to decrease discomfort, to manage a crisis, or even to clarify which of these is most pressing. My philosophy is that everyone has a unique perspective that makes them the experts on their own lives and that people come to therapy with the ability to grow; a belief grounded in neuroscience as well as outcomes research in psychotherapy.
I use many theoretical lenses, including those of attachment theory, social justice, trauma, and the neuroscience of psychotherapy. I use an integrative approach, drawing on many disciplines and traditions of therapy and using the most applicable techniques from each. I place particular emphasis on person-centred approaches.
Please reach out if you want to discuss whether we might be a good fit, or if you have any questions at all. I see it as my professional role to reduce barriers to therapy, stigma around mental health issues, and to make you comfortable with the whole process; from intake on. Therapy, Assessment, & Consulting
Are you struggling and not sure where to start? You may want help with addictions or mental health, your own sexual or violent behaviour or healing from past harms. Maybe you are another professional with a history that intersects with your work. You could be looking for help with your existing family or intimate relationships, job stress, or something else that affects your wellness. I offer a free 15 minute consultation to discuss your needs in advance of your first session. Services are offered by telephone or video at a rate of $160.00/hour. Insurance companies often cover these fees.
We can find a safe space to talk about what is bothering you. I work primarily in trauma, sexual violence, and intimate partner violence. I also work with people with more general needs (addictions, mental health, anger, stress, sex, attachment, and relationships). Let's help you be free of past hurt and work through present challenges.
We make time for whatever you are dealing with in each session. Therapy is semi-structured to allow us flexibility. It is most important to me that you get to discuss what you need to at the time. In our first session, we cover some basic background and set some priorities for counselling. Reach out to talk to someone who is ready to listen and help.

I am comfortable offering therapy for a wide range of personal difficulties and have particular interests in helping clients overcome issues related to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, video game addiction, anger, shyness and social anxiety, abusive relationships, assertiveness, grief, breakups and divorce, panic attacks, and perfectionism.
During my career (so far) I have worked in hospitals, forensic settings, psychiatric institutions, community services, universities, counselling centres, and private clinics.
I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology at Dalhousie University, my Masters and PhD. degrees in clinical psychology at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, and my Doctoral Internship at The University of Manitoba.
I also provide assessments for Learning Disorders, Child ADHD, Adult ADHD, Dyslexia, IQ, Giftedness, and Academic issues. This is a responsibility I take very seriously and my goal is to always exceed your expectations for an assessment.

Here is a summary of my training and expertise:
I am a Clinical Psychologist with The Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology and a member of The Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia.
I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of New Brunswick, my Masters and PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, and my Doctoral Residency at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. I have worked in hospitals, community agencies, psychiatric institutions, and university counselling centres thus far in my career. In addition to Green Leaf Psychological Services, I also work at QEII Health Sciences Centre with patients in Cardiology, Respirology, and Burns.
I develop an understanding of the difficulties people face from Client-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural, and Systems perspectives. In therapy, I first get to know a person or a couple holistically by learning their culture, identities strengths, and what they wish to work on. I then draw upon influences from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based therapies, Motivational Interviewing and Communication (MI), Behavioural Change Strategies, and Systems Approaches to collaborate with people on individually tailored treatment plans in order to help them define and achieve their goals.
I am comfortable providing individual therapy for a wide range of challenges people face throughout adulthood. I have worked particularly close with people who have health difficulties and can help people with weight management, pain management, coming to terms with and managing chronic health difficulties (e.g. Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Diabetes or a Heart condition), and dealing with insomnia or other sleep-related conditions. I am also skilled in helping people with anxiety (e.g. generalized anxiety, shyness, social anxiety, panic attacks), stress-management, depression, anger management, low self-esteem, difficulties with body-image, assertiveness, communication, grief, relationship difficulties, and break-ups.
I also provide therapy for couples centering on creating an understanding of mutual values and goals. Using this approach I help couples foster communication skills, build intimacy, get in touch with emotions, solve conflicts, fight fair, and manage difficulties with anger.

You've made it. Just by reading this, you're taking the first steps to lasting change in your life. Life can be difficult. Anxiety, depression, parenting issues, a stalled career, lost relationships can catch up. Life can seem overwhelming. Feeling stuck? We can get things moving.
You're not broken. You've made it this far. You have all the resources you need to make it through these tough times. I can help you find them. The good news? Your greatest strengths are also likely your greatest weaknesses. Your greatest weakness? Likely sources of undiscovered strength. The changes you want to make are much closer than you think.
I’m an artist. I’m unconventional. I don’t diagnose or label people. Everything you’ve done and currently do, you’ve needed to in order to survive. That’s a ‘creative adaptation’. Together we figure out where these adaptations work and where you need new ones. Life will likely be tough again. You'll just be better prepared to deal with it.
Sessions with me are confidential, non judgmental and at times, playful and fun. I bring both levity and sensitivity to the most delicate of situations. Therapy doesn't have to be stiff, scary or clinical. Getting help is a relief. You don't have to go it alone anymore. There's a place for you in the world. We can walk the path to this place together.
