Hi, my name is Kim, owner of TreeHouse Therapy. TreeHouse Therapy is a safe space to work through life’s challenges. As a Registered Counselling Therapist-Candidate, I am licensed to provide counselling services throughout Nova Scotia. I provide face-to-face counselling with children, parent(s)/caregiver(s) and child, adults, and couples. Therapy via Zoom and phone is also an option for adults and couples. As an educator for over 30 years, with the last 10 years as a counsellor, I have extensive experience working with children and families, and understand the challenges individuals face at different stages of life. I hold a Master of Education in Counselling from Acadia University, as well as a Master in Education for Diverse Learners and a Bachelor of Education both from Mount St. Vincent University. I use a trauma-approach to therapy that is person-centred. . I use a variety of evidence-based practices such as Play Therapy, Theraplay, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) to meet the needs of young people and their families. I am a provider for the Safe and Sound Protocol. I provide a warm, caring and genuine approach to therapy. My focus is on ensuring you feel heard, respected and valued. I have been in practice for over a span of 26 years and includes working with individuals, couples and groups. I have a particular interest in working holistically and building on the strengths of people who want to grow and develop their capacities. As a Focusing Oriented Therapist, the attention to the energetics of mind -body healing is central to my approach.

I work primarily with children, youth, families and young adults (college, university-aged). I have diverse experience working with children, parents and young adults in university/college who are dealing with anxiety, depression, school, family or life stressors. I have a particular interest in working with children to young adults who are managing living with concussions or illness (themselves or within their family). My approach is to work with my clients to come up with goals based on a combination of their concerns and my clinical assessment to help find a therapeutic plan that will be most helpful for my clients.
