I am constantly amazed at the resilience we all show, as we navigate our lives amidst the challenges that invariably arise! Sometimes the demands on us outweigh the resources we have available in that moment. It takes a courageous person to recognize the need for, and to request and accept, support. I am honoured every time clients invite me to join them along their journeys toward improved insight, skill, interaction, and overall living. I explore change on individual and systemic bases – both approaches are often beneficial. As a former police officer, and a mother to 3 children with some exceptional needs, I understand how tough life can get…and how we can find the “tough” within ourselves to “get going” and prevail! I would be thrilled to work with you, your family, and your systems. Raise the bar and raise the roof!
I have worked extensively with children, youth, parents, adults, and families, and the challenges associated with:
Anxiety
Depression
ADHD
Learning Disabilities (offering comprehensive psycho-educational assessment: cognitive, academic, and social/emotional/behavioural profiles)
Family Dynamics (including Family Restructuring Therapy)
Tourette’s Syndrome and Tic Disorders (offering Comprehensive Behavioural Intervention for Tics – CBIT)
Substance Use and Addiction
Trauma (including in first-responder clients)
School Support (including connecting with school personnel to ensure students are well-equipped to succeed in their given school settings)

You are open to exploring better ways of showing up for yourself and others in your life who you care about. You may be experiencing some challenges such as grief and loss, bereavement, depression, anxiety, or doubts about strengthening your abilities in order to move forward in your life. At any major crossroads, you are often forced to reevaluate who you are in the present moment, or who you would like to be in the future.
Having an ally with skill, resourcefulness and empathy by your side makes challenges bearable, and often makes it possible to move through and beyond these difficult times. Sometimes, it is about accepting where you are, looking at how you got there, and really examining the patterns of behaviour, thinking, and beliefs that exist as defaults for you.
I am here to fully support, and also, fully challenge you when needed. Counselling works best when approached from a collaborative and passionate stance, with a core belief in people's abilities and resilience. Let's work together to make positive changes. Groups, individual, and couple/family sessions available. I look forward to connecting with you!

I am passionate about working with children, teens, young adults, and the young at heart! My ideal clients are those seeking growth, change, or a place to explore and become familiar with vulnerability. I strive to provide an atmosphere that can accommodate the up-close and conscious work, as well as the meaning-making from a safe distance work.
My education and specified training is in working with children and youth, supporting their needs through a developmentally appropriate perspective. My warm and playful approach to practice also lends itself well in working with adult populations-- gentle curiosity, commitment to a goal, flexibility to shift direction, and the safety to explore.
Balance is something I value to my core. Therapy is often hard work. I believe it is important to celebrate the victories throughout the process, not only at the end. I also recognize the importance of play, both in the work and outside of it. Growth and change takes courage, as well as balance. Together we can work toward defining your balance.

Psychologist/EMDR Therapist
My name is Karina and I am a Registered Psychologist with over 10 years experience in the helping professions field. I offer individual therapy for teens and adults. I have worked with a range of folks with different mental health diagnoses, as well as presenting concerns. In my experience, people often struggle with one of two things: 1) the ways in which they are currently behaving, or 2) the symptoms that are preventing them from behaving and acting in the ways they want to be. In either scenario, multiple life areas are impacted such as work, relationships, family, and friendships.
Using a focused approach, I want to help you uncover root causes. Are you over stressed, short of time, energy, or motivation? What drives your daily actions? What are you doing to cope? Is it aligned with the person you want to be? What is happening internally while faced with stress? In what ways are painful past learnings keeping you stuck?
Growth is only possible when we are willing to adapt to the unique circumstances we face. I view my role as helping you to remove the blocks that are preventing you from living the life that you deserve. Together we will identify signals of suffering in your life and get you on the path to truly living according to your values and highest potential!

It is not uncommon to experience challenging or difficult situations which, at times, may feel distressing or overwhelming. Most people have struggles in their life such as coming to terms with a loss or transition in their life, stress at work or home, or difficulties due to anxiety or depression. Working things through on your own or talking with a friend or colleague can sometimes be enough. Other times, we need to reach out for professional help.
I am a Registered Psychologist, with over 20 years previous training and experience as a mental health nurse. I am originally from England and came to Canada in 2010. I completed my Masters in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University, Fredericton and have extensive training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
I have worked in a range of different treatment settings including community mental health teams, addictions services, and educational settings. As well as having my own private practice, I continue to work in primary care working alongside family physicians providing psychological consultation and treatment to patients within their clinics.
Over the years, I have developed areas of expertise including anxiety disorders, such as panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and generalised anxiety disorder, adjustment difficulties, and self-esteem issues. I also have a special interest in helping clients with ADHD, recognising the impact it can have, not only on day to day functioning, but also on mood, self-esteem, and relationships.
I bring warmth, humour, experience, and professionalism to create an environment which is supportive, caring, and facilitates change and growth so clients can achieve their personal goals. I believe that we all have the innate ability to overcome our struggles and that we are all on our own journey of growth and development. My goal is to help each client develop a range of strategies and skills to help them cope more effectively, and ultimately, become their own therapist to improve everyday life and overall well-being.
