About
I bring thirty-seven years of clinical experience to my work combined with a heart-felt intention to create a palpable sense of safety for my clients right from the get-go. I've always likened my work to that of a mid-wife. By this I mean simply, that my role, as I see it, is to provide skillful attunement, holding and accompaniment sufficient to allow for the inherent processes of healing and transformation to begin to unfold from within for my client. Interpersonal safety then gradually evolves into a felt-sense of in-the-body safety and ease for my clients. All of life naturally pushes towards wholeness in the same way that the delicate daisy pushes into bloom through rock crevices. This is a metaphor for that magical threshold of moving beyond suffering and surviving into connection, belonging and thriving! As a longtime trauma-sensitive, yoga teacher/therapist, acupressure (shiatsu) therapist and mindfulness researcher and teacher, I have always had great interest and passion for how the body impacts the mind and how the mind can and does impact the body. Our issues truly are in our tissues. Current neuroscience and mindfulness meditation research tells us that we can indeed use the mind to change the brain itself, the body and even our genes! This is a very exciting finding for those of us who have carried trauma within our tissues for even decades! As a complex (developmental) trauma specialist (C-PTSD), I offer my clients my clinical expertise in Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) for individuals and couples (AEDPfC), Somatic Experiencing (SE), Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS)and Attachment EMDR to name a few of the modalities I draw from. My style is attachment-informed, experiential, relational, somatic and emotion-focused. My work is grounded in moment-to-moment, mindful, micro-tracking of both the inner and relational experiences that emerge in the therapy session. The treatment I offer is tailored to the individual. Here, I draw on the best of Western psychology, attachment neuroscience and interpersonal neuro-biology combined with the perennial wisdom of Eastern Mind/Body approaches to healing (ie. Vipassana (Mindfulness) meditation, Yoga breath-work (Pranayama), Traditional Chinese Medicine and Self-Acupressure). As an integrative mental health specialist, I also offer education on nutrition, lifestyle, exercise, sleep hygiene, supplements and aromatherapy to address symptoms of anxiety and depression. In my experience, it is within the sacred container of the therapeutic encounter that the magic of healing and transformation happens in all its awesome power. We become wounded in relationship and so we must heal in safe relationship. And, I, the therapist, am reliably left with a quiet sense of the great privilege I have been given in this life to support, bear witness to and to journey alongside my clients as they courageously give birth to their whole, precious and authentic selves at long last.
